A 17-year-old boy and his elderly grandfather were tied up and beaten by masked bandits during a violent home invasion at their Penal home early Monday morning.
Police said the teenager and his 63-year-old grandfather were attacked around 3 am at their home at Mora Dam Road. The teenager was outside the house when he was confronted by five masked men, two of whom had firearms.
They struck the boy on the head and announced a robbery before forcing him into the house. He attempted to lock the front door, but the suspects kicked it open and stormed inside. They ordered the victims out of their home and forced them to lie the floor in the front shed, where their hands were tied with electrical cords. The grandfather was beaten during the ordeal.
They escaped with the teenager’s cellphone and his grandfather’s grey 15-horsepower boat engine. Officers from the South Western Division responded, and Siparia police are investigating. When Guardian Media visited the house yesterday, no one appeared to be home.
