A 47-year-old construction worker has been arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed a house along St Julien Road, Naparima Mayaro Road, Princes Town.
Police said the fire occurred on the evening of May 4, 2026, and destroyed the two-storey wooden structure. The damage was estimated at TT$150,000.
Investigators said the house was not insured.
Fire officers from the Mon Repos Fire Station responded to the incident and extinguished the blaze.
Police said the suspect is from St Julien Village, Princes Town. Officers arrested him during investigations into the incident.
Investigators are continuing enquiries into the fire and are preparing arson charges against the suspect.
Police said the charges are being prepared under instructions from W/Supt Bridglal.
The investigation is being supervised by Supt Bridglal, ASP Chulhan, Insp Wilkinson, Sgt Teeluck and Cpl Ramkissoon.
Officers are also appealing to members of the public for assistance with the investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the fire to contact the Princes Town Criminal Investigations Department.
Investigators have not released details on a possible motive for the incident or whether anyone was inside the house at the time of the fire.
Police said enquiries are continuing as officers seek to complete the investigation and determine the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
