Suspect arrested after Princes Town house fire

A 47-year-old con­struc­tion work­er has been ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with a fire that de­stroyed a house along St Julien Road, Na­pari­ma Ma­yaro Road, Princes Town.

Po­lice said the fire oc­curred on the evening of May 4, 2026, and de­stroyed the two-storey wood­en struc­ture. The dam­age was es­ti­mat­ed at TT$150,000.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the house was not in­sured.

Fire of­fi­cers from the Mon Re­pos Fire Sta­tion re­spond­ed to the in­ci­dent and ex­tin­guished the blaze.

Po­lice said the sus­pect is from St Julien Vil­lage, Princes Town. Of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed him dur­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries in­to the fire and are prepar­ing ar­son charges against the sus­pect.

Po­lice said the charges are be­ing pre­pared un­der in­struc­tions from W/Supt Bridglal.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is be­ing su­per­vised by Supt Bridglal, ASP Chul­han, In­sp Wilkin­son, Sgt Teeluck and Cpl Ramkissoon.

Of­fi­cers are al­so ap­peal­ing to mem­bers of the pub­lic for as­sis­tance with the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Po­lice are ask­ing any­one with in­for­ma­tion re­lat­ed to the fire to con­tact the Princes Town Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors have not re­leased de­tails on a pos­si­ble mo­tive for the in­ci­dent or whether any­one was in­side the house at the time of the fire.

Po­lice said en­quiries are con­tin­u­ing as of­fi­cers seek to com­plete the in­ves­ti­ga­tion and de­ter­mine the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the blaze.
