House destroyed by fire in Point Fortin

A 33-year-old man has been left home­less af­ter a fire de­stroyed his house in Fan­ny Vil­lage, Point Fortin, ear­ly to­day.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers re­spond­ed around 2am to re­ports of a blaze at LP#4 “O” Street, where they found a 20 by 24-foot wood­en struc­ture com­plete­ly de­stroyed.

The home­own­er, Jamel Knights, told of­fi­cers he had se­cured the house around 10.30am yes­ter­day be­fore leav­ing. He said he lat­er re­ceived a call from a neigh­bour around 1.30am in­form­ing him that the house was on fire.

The sin­gle-storey struc­ture, which stood on wood­en pil­lars and was fit­ted with elec­tric­i­ty and run­ning wa­ter, was not in­sured.

Fire of­fi­cers from the Point Fortin sta­tion re­spond­ed and ex­tin­guished the blaze.

The struc­ture and its con­tents were es­ti­mat­ed at $60,000.
