Man killed, wife injured in Valencia shooting

A 49-year-old man was killed and his wife in­jured af­ter gun­men opened fire on their home in Va­len­cia ear­ly this morn­ing.

Po­lice said Shaun Charles, a fa­ther of two, died af­ter be­ing shot while in­side his Ea­monn Lane home around 3.30 am. His wife, 40-year-old Claris­sa James, was al­so shot and re­mains ward­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the cou­ple and their two chil­dren were asleep when loud ex­plo­sions woke them. Both vic­tims were found with gun­shot wounds to the back.

Of­fi­cers re­spond­ing to the scene re­cov­ered sev­er­al 9mm shell cas­ings and seized items of ev­i­den­tial val­ue.

The chil­dren were not in­jured.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing by homi­cide of­fi­cers at­tached to the Arou­ca Bu­reau, Re­gion Two.
