‘Kidnap’ victim escapes captors from Arouca hideout

A La Hor­quet­ta man freed him­self from his kid­nap­pers on Sun­day morn­ing and re­port­ed the mat­ter to po­lice, while one sus­pect has been ar­rest­ed.

Po­lice said the vic­tim ar­rived at the Arou­ca Po­lice Sta­tion around 11 am car­ry­ing a pis­tol and re­port­ed that he had been kid­napped from his La Hor­quet­ta home fol­low­ing a card game with men known to him.

He told of­fi­cers that he was tak­en to a forest­ed area in Bertie Hill, Arou­ca, where he man­aged to seize a firearm be­long­ing to one of his cap­tors be­fore es­cap­ing.

Of­fi­cers of the Arou­ca Po­lice Sta­tion Charge Room and the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force lat­er vis­it­ed the area and ar­rest­ed one sus­pect.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the sus­pect is in his ear­ly twen­ties and is ex­pect­ed to be in­ter­viewed.

Of­fi­cers of the TTPS Air Sup­port Unit al­so as­sist­ed at the scene.

Po­lice said the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is on­go­ing and sev­er­al key de­tails in the re­port­ed kid­nap­ping re­main un­clear.
