Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will make an official visit to Guyana following discussions with that country’s President, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, yesterday, where both leaders agreed on a wide-ranging development, trade and economic agenda aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
The two leaders discussed cooperation across several areas, including food security, investment opportunities, energy integration, technology exchange, human capital development and security. They also agreed on the establishment of a working group to remove barriers to trade and improve competitiveness between the two countries.
The working group will include representatives from the private sectors of both nations and will focus on addressing development challenges and opportunities identified during the discussions.
According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, President Ali thanked Persad-Bissessar for her support for Guyana’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in the Essequibo region dispute with Venezuela and expressed appreciation on behalf of the people of Guyana.
Both governments agreed to continue close collaboration in the areas outlined, with the aim of further deepening bilateral relations.
President Ali was accompanied by his Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar, Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation Zulfikar Ally and Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning Keoma Griffith, along with members of his delegation and private sector representatives.
The Prime Minister was joined by Attorney General John Jeremie, Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Sean Sobers, Minister of Public Utilities Barry Padarath and Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Dr Roodal Moonilal.
