Two held, firearms seized after Princes Town robbery

Of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol (ERP) ar­rest­ed two sus­pects and seized two firearms fol­low­ing a re­port of rob­bery with vi­o­lence in the Princes Town dis­trict.

Po­lice said a dri­ver was op­er­at­ing a white Sub­aru for hire around 8.35 pm on Wednes­day when he picked up five men along Na­pari­ma Ma­yaro Road. The men re­quest­ed a trip to Bor­de Narve. On reach­ing In­ver­ness Road, one sus­pect pro­duced a firearm and an­nounced a rob­bery.

The dri­ver was robbed of a cel­lu­lar phone, cash and the ve­hi­cle.

A re­port was made and ERP of­fi­cers in­ter­cept­ed the ve­hi­cle in the Ste Madeleine dis­trict short­ly af­ter. Po­lice said one sus­pect point­ed a firearm and fired a shot at of­fi­cers. Of­fi­cers re­turned fire in keep­ing with the Use of Force Pol­i­cy. No in­juries were re­port­ed.

Two Venezue­lan na­tion­als, ages 22 and 24, were ar­rest­ed. Three sus­pects es­caped.

Po­lice seized two pis­tols at the scene.

The South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, with sup­port from the Air Sup­port Unit and oth­er di­vi­sion units, car­ried out search­es for the re­main­ing sus­pects. No fur­ther ar­rests were made.
