Hosein renews call for highway barriers after fatal crash

Ac­ci­dent sur­vivor Yousuf Ho­sein is once again mak­ing an ap­peal to the gov­ern­ment to in­stall pro­tec­tive bar­ri­ers af­ter an­oth­er cross-me­di­an fa­tal crash.

Ho­sein, who sur­vived a sim­i­lar ac­ci­dent in 2012, is call­ing on Min­is­ter of Works and In­fra­struc­ture Jear­lean John and Min­is­ter of Trans­port Eli Za­k­our to con­tin­ue the in­stal­la­tion of guard rails on high­ways to pre­vent the loss of lives and limbs on the na­tion’s high­ways.

His ap­peal comes af­ter Laven­tille res­i­dent Mishael Michael King died on Sun­day af­ter­noon when a pick-up slammed in­to him while he was dri­ving along the Uri­ah But­ler High­way.

Po­lice said King, of Fur­ness Whit­ty Pri­vate Road, Suc­cess Vil­lage, Laven­tille, was head­ing north along the high­way around 5:30 pm when a black Mit­subishi Sportero, which was head­ing south, crossed the me­di­an and slammed in­to the Kia Cer­a­to he was dri­ving.

Front-seat pas­sen­ger Sev­e­ri­na Fran­cois was tak­en to the Mt Hope Hos­pi­tal, where doc­tors treat­ed her for brain in­juries.

The dri­ver of the Sportero and his pas­sen­ger were tak­en to the Ch­agua­nas Health Fa­cil­i­ty, where doc­tors treat­ed them and lat­er dis­charged them.
