Man held as firearms ammunition and cannabis seized

A man is in cus­tody af­ter po­lice seized two firearms, am­mu­ni­tion and cannabis dur­ing State of Emer­gency op­er­a­tions in the West­ern Di­vi­sion.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice re­port­ed that of­fi­cers of the St James Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment con­duct­ed a Steady Guard Op­er­a­tion be­tween 11 pm on Sun­day and 3 am to­day.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers went to a house in St James where they car­ried out a search. They found a Glock 19 pis­tol loaded with an ex­tend­ed mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 18 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion. Of­fi­cers al­so dis­cov­ered and seized a bag con­tain­ing 277 grammes of cannabis.

Po­lice ar­rest­ed a male sus­pect who was on the premis­es at the time in con­nec­tion with the find­ings.

Snr Supt Williams sanc­tioned the op­er­a­tion, while ASP Aguil­era, In­sp Grant and In­sp Bas­sant co­or­di­nat­ed the ex­er­cise. Of­fi­cers from the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and St James Po­lice Sta­tion al­so took part.

In a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an op­er­a­tion be­tween 6.45 am and 8.30 am on Sun­day, 29 March 2026 along the West­ern Main Road in Ch­aguara­mas. Dur­ing that ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers at­tempt­ed to ar­rest a male sus­pect, but he es­caped.

Of­fi­cers searched the area and found a pis­tol loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing three rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

Po­lice said in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to both mat­ters are on­go­ing.
