Two arrested after supermarket robbery in Fyzabad

Two sus­pects are in po­lice cus­tody fol­low­ing a rob­bery at a su­per­mar­ket in the Fyz­abad dis­trict on Tues­day.

Po­lice said around 5:00 p.m., of­fi­cers at­tached to the San Fer­nan­do Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment re­ceived a re­port of a rob­bery at the Two in One Su­per­mar­ket while on mo­bile pa­trol. Of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to the Palmiste area based on the re­port and ob­served two in­di­vid­u­als match­ing de­scrip­tions giv­en.

The sus­pects were in­ter­cept­ed along Flamin­go Cres­cent by of­fi­cers, in­clud­ing mem­bers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol and the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force.

Po­lice con­duct­ed a search and found one sus­pect with cash, cel­lu­lar phones, watch­es and a mag­a­zine with ten rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion. The sec­ond sus­pect was al­so found with cash.

Of­fi­cers lat­er car­ried out en­quiries which led them to a lo­ca­tion along Pel­i­can Dri­ve, Palmiste, where a .40 cal­i­bre pis­tol was re­cov­ered.

Both sus­pects were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the of­fences.

Po­lice al­so re­cov­ered TT$4,314 and US$100, along with cel­lu­lar phones and watch­es be­lieved to have been tak­en dur­ing the rob­bery.

A ve­hi­cle be­lieved to have been used in the in­ci­dent was lat­er found aban­doned in the Palmiste Park area. The ve­hi­cle was seized by po­lice.
