Barnett reappointed Caricom Secretary-General

Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty (Cari­com) Heads of Gov­ern­ment have agreed to the reap­point­ment of Car­la Bar­nett as Sec­re­tary-Gen­er­al, fol­low­ing de­lib­er­a­tions at their Fifti­eth Reg­u­lar Meet­ing held in Saint Kitts and Nevis from Feb­ru­ary 24 to 27, 2026.

In a state­ment, Ter­rance Drew, CARI­COM Chair, con­firmed that the re­quired ma­jor­i­ty sup­port­ed the de­ci­sion.

Dr Bar­nett will be­gin her sec­ond term in Au­gust 2026, serv­ing a fur­ther five years con­tin­u­ing her lead­er­ship of the re­gion­al body head­quar­tered in Turkeyen, Greater George­town.

In 2021, Bar­nett was se­lect­ed as the first fe­male Sec­re­tary-Gen­er­al of Cari­com. She suc­ceed­ed Am­bas­sador Ir­win LaRocque.
