The Diego Martin Borough Corporation honoured 20 top-performing Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) students during an awards ceremony held on Thursday 19th March at the Diego Martin South Community Centre.
Councillors and school principals across the borough identified the students based on their performance in the exam.
Chief Executive Officer Sherry Hazel-Loney told the students to continue pushing themselves and avoid becoming complacent.
Mayor Akeliah Glasgow-Warner told the awardees, “You are our future doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders,” and urged them to stay focused on their education and make use of the support around them.
Students received their awards in front of parents, teachers and schoolmates.
Councillor Marcia Marslin, chairman of the Sport, Youth Development and Education Committee, told the students, “Passing these exams is proof that dedication pays off. This is not the end, but the beginning of new opportunities. Carry forward the same energy, curiosity, and determination into the next chapter of your lives.”
Deputy Mayor Valiesha Sookdar, councillors and administrative staff also attended the event.
