Several held; firearms seized in south-west exercise

A co­or­di­nat­ed an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in the south-west has led to sev­er­al ar­rests and the seizure of firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice car­ried out “Op­er­a­tion Chop­per” be­tween 10 am and 10 pm on Sun­day, March 22, 2026, in the Point Fortin and Guapo dis­tricts.

Act­ing un­der Le­gal No­tice No. 40 of the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions, 2026, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed tar­get­ed search­es at mul­ti­ple lo­ca­tions, fo­cus­ing on per­sons of in­ter­est.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, po­lice seized one shot­gun with sev­en 12-gauge car­tridges and al­so found two rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

Of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed two in­di­vid­u­als in con­nec­tion with pos­ses­sion of the firearm and am­mu­ni­tion, while they dealt with an­oth­er per­son for pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Thomp­son spear­head­ed and su­per­vised the op­er­a­tion, with co­or­di­na­tion from Su­per­in­ten­dent Jag­ger­nauth, ASP Forbes and ASP Cor­rie.

Of­fi­cers from the South West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, both East and West, the South West­ern Di­vi­sion Gang Unit, Point Fortin CID, Siparia CID and the K9 Unit took part in the ex­er­cise.
