Persons exercising in and around the Queen's Park Savannah, particularly near the Lady Chancellor Hill are being warned to be vigilant when parking their vehicles in the area, following a string of thefts and robberies.
The warning was made by officers of the Port of Spain Division, after an incident where a man's vehicle was broken into on Thursday afternoon.
Police said the man parked his white Toyota Hilux near the Emperor Valley Zoo at around 4.30 pm and went to exercise.
He returned shortly after and noticed the left rear window of the vehicle broken and his laptop, cellphone, ear bud charging port, headphones, lunch bag and assorted clothing were missing.
Last Sunday, another robbery was reported where a woman's silver Mercedes Benz was broken into and a glasses case stolen.
On the morning of March 1, a man's Toyota Rav4 was broken into on the Lady Chancellor Hill near the Horticultural Society.
A black pouch containing his housekeeping, bank cards and $1000 cash was stolen.
In another incident on the night of February 2nd, a woman parked and locked her Toyota Aqua on the Queen's Park Savannah and left to exercise.
She returned shortly after and noticed the back glass of the car broken and the car battery missing.
Police are therefore advising people to take extra precautions when parking their vehicles in the area, while being vigilant.
One officer also urged Toyota Aqua owners to invest in additional locks and steering clamps to protect their vehicles as they said there was a marked uptick in the thefts of batteries from these vehicles.
Police said while some attention will be focused on the area to deter robberies, they note that other areas would require their attention as they try to balance the allocation of resources and time.
