A 50-year-old businessman from Golden Grove, Canaan, has been fined $100,000 after pleading guilty to firearm and ammunition charges at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court.

Nigel Anderson appeared before Senior Magistrate Alicia Chankar on Thursday (March 19, 2026), where he admitted to possessing two revolvers and twelve rounds of .38 ammunition.

The court heard that at approximately 3:25 am on December 14, 2020, officers attached to the Tobago Division Task Force, led by WPC Sgt. Harris, executed a search warrant at Anderson’s home on Golden Grove Road, Canaan. During the search, officers found one revolver and six rounds of .38 ammunition in a living room drawer.

Following his arrest, Anderson was taken to the Scarborough Police Station. Statements made during his interview prompted officers to obtain a second search warrant, which led to the discovery of a second revolver and an additional six rounds of .38 ammunition at his residence.

In delivering the sentence, Senior Magistrate Chankar questioned the six-year delay before Anderson entered a guilty plea.

He was fined $100,000, with an alternative sentence of five years’ hard labour if the fine is not paid.

Anderson has been given eighteen months to settle the fine.
