San Fernando North library to close March 21

The Na­tion­al Li­brary and In­for­ma­tion Sys­tem Au­thor­i­ty (NALIS) has an­nounced the per­ma­nent clo­sure of the San Fer­nan­do North Com­mu­ni­ty Li­brary from March 21, 2026.

In a pub­lic no­tice, NALIS stat­ed that the clo­sure is part of a move to a larg­er fa­cil­i­ty in San Fer­nan­do where li­brary and in­for­ma­tion ser­vices will be de­liv­ered. The cur­rent lo­ca­tion at the San Fer­nan­do North Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­tre will cease op­er­a­tions as the col­lec­tion is pre­pared for trans­fer.

NALIS said the process in­cludes de­cant­i­ng ma­te­ri­als ahead of a merg­er of ser­vices at the new site. The au­thor­i­ty not­ed that the change is in­tend­ed to sup­port ser­vice de­liv­ery from a sin­gle lo­ca­tion.

Mem­bers of the pub­lic are be­ing di­rect­ed to ac­cess ser­vices at oth­er NALIS lo­ca­tions dur­ing the tran­si­tion pe­ri­od. Users may al­so ac­cess on­line re­sources through the NALIS web­site.

NALIS con­firmed that the new fa­cil­i­ty will be lo­cat­ed at Har­ris Prom­e­nade. An open­ing date has not been an­nounced. The au­thor­i­ty said up­dates will be pro­vid­ed.

The no­tice ad­vised that the clo­sure forms part of a plan to ex­pand space for col­lec­tions and ser­vices. NALIS stat­ed that the new lo­ca­tion will ac­com­mo­date op­er­a­tions cur­rent­ly of­fered at the San Fer­nan­do North branch.

The au­thor­i­ty ac­knowl­edged the im­pact of the clo­sure and ex­pressed re­gret for any in­con­ve­nience caused.

The San Fer­nan­do North Com­mu­ni­ty Li­brary has served users from sur­round­ing com­mu­ni­ties. NALIS said it will con­tin­ue to pro­vide ac­cess to li­brary and in­for­ma­tion ser­vices through its net­work dur­ing the tran­si­tion.
