Drivers can renew licences three months early

Dri­vers can now re­new their li­cences up to three months be­fore the ex­pi­ra­tion date un­der a new change ap­proved by the Gov­ern­ment.

The Min­istry of Trans­port and Civ­il Avi­a­tion said the mea­sure took ef­fect to­day fol­low­ing an amend­ment to reg­u­la­tions un­der the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles and Road Traf­fic Act.

Pre­vi­ous­ly, mo­torists could on­ly re­new li­cences with­in one month of the ex­piry date.

The amend­ment, in­tro­duced through Le­gal No­tice No. 48 of 2026, al­lows hold­ers of valid dri­ver’s li­cences to re­new up to three months in ad­vance.

The min­istry said the change will pro­vide greater con­ve­nience for the pub­lic, re­duce last-minute re­newals and im­prove ser­vice ef­fi­cien­cy.
