Cocorite man killed after ignoring threats

A 21-year-old man was shot dead in Co­corite this morn­ing af­ter pre­vi­ous­ly dis­miss­ing warn­ings about threats to his life.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to a re­port of a shoot­ing at Up­per Wa­ter­hole just af­ter 10 am.

When they ar­rived, they found the body of Omar Mo­hammed, of Pow­der Mag­a­zine, Co­corite.

Po­lice said Mo­hammed was a chron­ic drug user and had re­cent­ly re­port­ed threats to his life. Of­fi­cers warned him to leave the area for his safe­ty.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said Mo­hammed re­fused and told of­fi­cers, “No­body could run me out of Co­corite.”

Po­lice said Mo­hammed lat­er be­came in­volved in an ar­gu­ment and was chased by gun­men be­fore he was shot and col­lapsed at the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors are treat­ing the killing as gang re­lat­ed.
