Three telecommunications technicians from across the Caribbean have secured international certification as part of a regional training initiative launched by Liberty Caribbean, the operator of Flow, Liberty Business and BTC.
Amraz Hosein of Trinidad and Tobago and Lamar Uffer of Jamaica earned Broadband Premises Installer certifications, while Antwon Walter of the Cayman Islands completed certification as a Broadband Wireless Specialist through the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).
The certifications mark the first group to complete training under Liberty Caribbean’s Technician Pathways programme, which was introduced in 2025 to strengthen technical skills and create clearer career tracks for field staff.
Dominic Boon, Vice-President of People at Liberty Caribbean, described the milestone as an early outcome of the initiative.
“Their success is the first milestone from Technician Pathways, a programme designed to professionalise field roles, raise service standards and create clear career progression for technicians across Liberty Caribbean’s footprint. To date, 583 technicians have enrolled in the programme and are actively working toward SCTE credentials,” Boon said.
The programme combines structured technical training with mentorship, exam preparation and on-the-job coaching. Liberty Caribbean indicated the aim is to align the skills of its field technicians with international industry standards while improving service delivery across its regional operations.
Boon noted that technicians often represent the company’s most visible presence in communities across the Caribbean.
“Technicians are the backbone of our business. They are the ones who climb the poles, restore service after storms, engage with households and businesses, and keep our communities connected. Celebrating these certifications is about recognising individual dedication and reinforcing a culture of skills development that benefits colleagues, customers and the wider region,” he said.
The company indicated that the programme also forms part of a wider workforce development strategy across its markets.
Certified technicians may be considered for advanced technical roles, mentoring duties and participation in cross-market projects as the initiative expands.
Liberty Caribbean said more than 500 technicians are currently enrolled in the Technician Pathways programme and are working toward professional accreditation through SCTE as the company continues to build technical capacity across its Caribbean network.
