$750k cannabis seized in SOE operation in Sangre Grande

Two peo­ple were ar­rest­ed af­ter of­fi­cers seized cannabis val­ued at $750,000 dur­ing a State of Emer­gency op­er­a­tion in San­gre Grande on Sun­day.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers ex­e­cut­ed a search war­rant at a res­i­dence along Ojoe Road, San­gre Grande, where they dis­cov­ered a quan­ti­ty of cannabis weigh­ing ap­prox­i­mate­ly 25.5 kilo­grammes.

The cannabis was seized dur­ing the ex­er­cise.

Po­lice said the es­ti­mat­ed street val­ue of the drugs is $750,000.

The two sus­pects who were present at the house at the time of the search were ar­rest­ed for the of­fence of pos­ses­sion of cannabis for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.

Both sus­pects were tak­en to the San­gre Grande Po­lice Sta­tion where they re­main in cus­tody.

Po­lice said the sus­pects are ex­pect­ed to be for­mal­ly charged in con­nec­tion with the seizure.

The op­er­a­tion was car­ried out by of­fi­cers at­tached to the East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and the Na­tion­al Op­er­a­tions Task Force, with as­sis­tance from the K9 Unit.

The ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Pa­ponette and In­spec­tors Ramdeen and Harp­er.

Sergeant Ram­per­sad su­per­vised the op­er­a­tion.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise formed part of on­go­ing State of Emer­gency op­er­a­tions con­duct­ed across di­vi­sions.

The TTPS has con­tin­ued op­er­a­tions tar­get­ing il­le­gal firearms, am­mu­ni­tion and drugs.

Po­lice said the op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed on Sun­day 15 March, 2026.
