Drug arrests and firearm seizure in Freeport police exercise

Po­lice ar­rest­ed three peo­ple for drug of­fences and seized three firearms and am­mu­ni­tion dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in Freeport on Sat­ur­day.

The op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed be­tween 4 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. by of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force, Area North.

The ex­er­cise was led by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Bhag­wan­deen, Su­per­in­ten­dent Glodon, As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Reyes and In­spec­tor Joseph. Sergeant Ali al­so took part. Cor­po­rals Sama­roo and Char­ran su­per­vised of­fi­cers dur­ing the ex­er­cise.

Po­lice con­duct­ed pa­trols, stop and search ex­er­cis­es and road­blocks in En­ter­prise, Ch­agua­nas, Carlsen­field, Freeport and Fe­lic­i­ty.

Of­fi­cers stopped ve­hi­cles and searched per­sons dur­ing the op­er­a­tion. Po­lice fo­cused on ve­hi­cles sus­pect­ed in nar­cotics dis­tri­b­u­tion, firearm traf­fick­ing and the move­ment of pri­or­i­ty of­fend­ers.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise of­fi­cers went to Mahi­ca Road in Freeport af­ter re­ceiv­ing in­for­ma­tion.

Po­lice searched an open area near a bridge and found a black bag.

In­side the bag of­fi­cers found three pis­tols with­out se­r­i­al num­bers. Po­lice al­so found fif­teen rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion and eight rounds of .380 am­mu­ni­tion.

Po­lice Con­sta­ble Son­ny seized the firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

No ar­rests were made in re­la­tion to the firearms dis­cov­ery. Po­lice said in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

Three sus­pects were ar­rest­ed dur­ing the op­er­a­tion for drug of­fences. Po­lice did not re­lease the iden­ti­ties of the sus­pects up to the time of the re­port.

The seized firearms and am­mu­ni­tion were tak­en in­to po­lice cus­tody as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue.
