TTPS seize firearm, cannabis

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice re­port­ed that of­fi­cers seized a firearm, am­mu­ni­tion and quan­ti­ties of cannabis dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in the Cen­tral and North East­ern Di­vi­sions yes­ter­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the TTPS, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a search in the Las Lo­mas dis­trict be­tween 6 pm and 11 pm on Tues­day 10th March, 2026. Dur­ing the op­er­a­tion, they dis­cov­ered two plas­tic zip-lock bags con­tain­ing cannabis weigh­ing ap­prox­i­mate­ly 75 grammes hid­den in a pile of red bricks on the west­ern side of a build­ing.

Fur­ther search­es on the east­ern side of the premis­es led to the dis­cov­ery of a black plas­tic bag con­cealed in a bushy area con­tain­ing as­sort­ed am­mu­ni­tion. Of­fi­cers seized one round of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion and five rounds of 5.56mm am­mu­ni­tion.

Of­fi­cers lat­er pro­ceed­ed to Ker­na­ham Trace, Cunu­pia, where a search of a forest­ed area re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of three pig­tail buck­ets con­tain­ing three ful­ly grown cannabis trees. Po­lice seized the cannabis and am­mu­ni­tion and con­veyed them to the Las Lo­mas Po­lice Post for safe­keep­ing.

In a sep­a­rate in­tel­li­gence-led op­er­a­tion con­duct­ed be­tween 3 pm and 6 pm in the Mal­oney dis­trict, of­fi­cers seized a firearm, a mag­a­zine and four­teen rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion and ar­rest­ed one sus­pect.

Act­ing on in­tel­li­gence, of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to Cleaver Road, Ari­ma, where they met a man out­side a shop area on the east­ern side of the premis­es. Af­ter of­fi­cers iden­ti­fied them­selves and in­formed him that they would con­duct a search un­der the State of Emer­gency Reg­u­la­tions, the sus­pect ran to­wards the back of the house.

Of­fi­cers pur­sued and ap­pre­hend­ed him a short dis­tance away. A search of a mul­ti-coloured bag he was car­ry­ing led to the dis­cov­ery of a firearm fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing four­teen rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the sus­pect as a 43-year-old man of Cleaver Road, Ari­ma. Of­fi­cers cau­tioned and ar­rest­ed him and con­veyed him to the Mal­oney Po­lice Sta­tion.

The TTPS re­port­ed that Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent May­nard-Wil­son and Su­per­in­ten­dent McKen­zie co­or­di­nat­ed the ex­er­cise to­geth­er with of­fi­cers of the Mal­oney Po­lice Sta­tion.
