Security officer granted bail on charge of obstructing police

A se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer has been grant­ed bail af­ter be­ing charged with ob­struct­ing po­lice of­fi­cers in the ex­e­cu­tion of their du­ty fol­low­ing a re­port of a home in­va­sion in Ari­ma.

Tisha Badal, 29, ap­peared be­fore Jus­tice of the Peace Mar­i­lyn Mar­tin on Tues­day where she was grant­ed bail in the sum of $30,000. She is ex­pect­ed to reap­pear at the Ari­ma High Court North on March 11.

An­oth­er se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer who was in­volved in the mat­ter was al­lowed to leave pend­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, of­fi­cers of the Ari­ma Po­lice Sta­tion re­spond­ed to a re­port of a home in­va­sion at East Lakes, Tumpuna Road, Ari­ma, on March 6.

Po­lice said that when of­fi­cers ar­rived at the gat­ed com­mu­ni­ty, which was manned by of­fi­cers of a pri­vate se­cu­ri­ty com­pa­ny, they iden­ti­fied them­selves us­ing their Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice iden­ti­fi­ca­tion cards and in­formed the se­cu­ri­ty per­son­nel that they were re­spond­ing to a re­port of a home in­va­sion in progress.

Po­lice said the of­fi­cers were ini­tial­ly de­nied en­try to the com­pound by the se­cu­ri­ty per­son­nel. Of­fi­cers were on­ly al­lowed ac­cess af­ter a pe­ri­od of time had elapsed.

Up­on en­ter­ing the com­mu­ni­ty and re­spond­ing to the scene, of­fi­cers in­ter­viewed the vic­tim who re­port­ed that two men, one armed with a cut­lass, forced their way in­to her home.

The men al­leged­ly as­sault­ed the vic­tim and robbed her of a quan­ti­ty of jew­ellery and elec­tron­ic items be­fore es­cap­ing.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was con­duct­ed by of­fi­cers of the North­ern Di­vi­sion North un­der Snr Supt May­nard-Wil­son, Supt McKen­zie, ASP Ablacks­ingh and ASP Bale­wa, and su­per­vised by In­sp David and Sgt For­ge­nie.
