Atlantic LNG has appointed Dr Rampersad Motilal as chairman, bringing one of the country’s most experienced energy executives into the leadership of the liquefied natural gas company at a time when the sector is under pressure from declining gas supply and restructuring.

Motilal replaces Vincent Pereira, whose tenure as chairman has come to an end as Atlantic continues implementing the first phase of its corporate restructuring.

Motilal brings more than four decades of experience in Trinidad and Tobago’s energy industry, with a career spanning petrochemicals, large-scale project development, engineering management and corporate strategy.

He previously served for 16 years as chief executive officer and managing director of Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL) and its predecessor companies, one of the largest methanol producers operating in the country.

During his time at MHTL, Motilal oversaw operations in a sector that remains one of the major consumers of natural gas from Trinidad and Tobago’s upstream industry. The company operates several methanol plants at the Point Lisas Industrial Estate and has long been a key part of the country’s petrochemical export sector.

His appointment comes as Atlantic LNG continues efforts to reposition its operations amid structural changes in the domestic gas industry and the wider global LNG market.
