A Barataria man was arrested on Friday after he was found with an illegal firearm.
Police said the 30-year-old of Sawmill Avenue was held during Operation Steady Guard, which was conducted by officers in the Morvant district between 5 pm and 9 pm.
Spearheaded by Snr Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne, Supt Birch and ASP Callender, members of the Morvant CID, Morvant Charge Room, Barataria CID, Barataria Charge Room and the North Eastern Division Task Force went to the suspect’s house around 6:25 pm, where they carried out a search and recovered one black 9-millimetre Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact Pro pistol and 13 rounds of 9-millimetre ammunition.
The suspect, who is not the holder of a Firearm User’s Licence (FUL), was arrested and taken to the Morvant Police Station.
A secondary search of another property belonging to a 21-year-old barber, also of Sawmill Avenue, was carried out, but nothing illegal was found.
The homes of two priority offenders at Seventh Avenue and Second Street, Malick, Barataria, also were searched, but officers left empty-handed.
Meanwhile, police arrested six other people and seized several quantities of ammunition and narcotics during exercises conducted on Friday.
