Traffic police seize two firearms during SoE operations

Of­fi­cers of the Traf­fic and High­way Pa­trol Branch have ar­rest­ed one man and seized two firearms and am­mu­ni­tion dur­ing ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed un­der the State of Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tion 2026 with­in the past 24 hours.

Be­tween 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., of­fi­cers car­ried out an in­tel­li­gence-led an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in the North­ern Di­vi­sion. At a res­i­dence on Pin­to Road, Ari­ma, of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered one Glock 23 pis­tol, eight rounds of am­mu­ni­tion, and a mag­a­zine. A 32-year-old man was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Lat­er, be­tween 11:00 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., of­fi­cers act­ed on fur­ther in­tel­li­gence at Kennedy Park, Pa­pourie Road, Pic­ton. Dur­ing a search of a blue garbage bin, one Jeri­cho 9mm pis­tol, six rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion, and 30 rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion were seized. The items are held pend­ing fur­ther en­quiries.

The op­er­a­tions were led by Snr. Su­per­in­ten­dent Da­ley, co­or­di­nat­ed by Ag. In­spec­tor Lind­sey, and su­per­vised by Sgt. Bab­wah, Cpl. Per­sad, Cpl. Orr, and Ag. Cpl. Davis.

Po­lice con­firmed the seizures are part of on­go­ing ef­forts to en­force the State of Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tion 2026. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing, and the ar­rest­ed man re­mains in cus­tody as au­thor­i­ties pur­sue fur­ther leads.

Of­fi­cers stat­ed that in­tel­li­gence-led op­er­a­tions will con­tin­ue across di­vi­sions, with a fo­cus on firearms and am­mu­ni­tion re­cov­ery. Com­mu­ni­ties are urged to co­op­er­ate with law en­force­ment and re­port sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­i­ty.

The Traf­fic and High­way Pa­trol Branch re­it­er­at­ed its com­mit­ment to en­forc­ing laws un­der the State of Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tion 2026 and pre­vent­ing crime in all re­gions of Trinidad and To­ba­go.
