Fire destroys vehicles, damages home

A fam­i­ly in Ed­in­burgh 500 suf­fered hun­dreds of thou­sands of dol­lars in loss­es af­ter a fire de­stroyed two ve­hi­cles and par­tial­ly dam­aged their home on Tues­day evening.

Mar­la Pacheco, 49, a le­gal of­fi­cer with NP, was at home with her 78-year-old fa­ther around 5.55 pm when they heard a loud ex­plo­sion. When she checked, she saw her fa­ther’s Hyundai Tuc­son, val­ued at $80,000 and parked in the garage, on fire.

The blaze quick­ly spread to a Nis­san Qashqai, val­ued at $250,000, which was parked near­by, and then ex­tend­ed to the house. The home, val­ued at $1.3 mil­lion, sus­tained par­tial dam­age.

Fire of­fi­cers re­spond­ed, but both ve­hi­cles were de­stroyed. No one was in­jured.

Po­lice were told the Hyundai Tuc­son un­der­went me­chan­i­cal re­pairs on Mon­day. The cause of the fire re­mains un­de­ter­mined.

T&TEC per­son­nel re­moved the elec­tric­i­ty me­ter as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue. WPC Gunn and PC Kennedy of the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
