The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) has issued two Certificates of Environmental Clearance (CECs) for projects in the energy and tourism sectors.
CEC7133/2025 was granted to Perenco Trinidad and Tobago Limited for the recommissioning of an existing produced water treatment system on the Amherstia Platform, located in the Southeast Galeota Block off the south-east coast of Trinidad. The approval allows for the treatment and controlled discharge of produced water to facilitate gas export operations and increased production from an existing well.
The EMA said the application underwent a detailed technical review, including an Ecological Risk Assessment supported by hydrodynamic modelling and worst-case discharge scenario analysis. The certificate was issued on February 26, 2026.

On the same date, CEC7199/2026 was granted to Superior Hotels Trinidad and Tobago Limited for the construction of a 109-room hotel on approximately 0.5862 hectares of land off Tarouba Link Road, San Fernando.
During the CEC handover at the EMA’s North Office, CEC holder John Aboud said the approval represented a record turnaround time in his experience.
The EMA stated that both projects were assessed in accordance with environmental regulations before approvals were granted.
