Energy Chamber CEO Dr Thackwray Driver resigns

The Board of the En­er­gy Cham­ber of Trinidad & To­ba­go has ac­cept­ed the res­ig­na­tion of its pres­i­dent and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, Dr Thack­wray (Dax) Dri­ver, ef­fec­tive March 31, 2026.

No rea­son was giv­en for his de­par­ture.

In a state­ment is­sued this morn­ing, the Board said it “ex­tends its sin­cere thanks to Dr Dri­ver for his 24 years of ser­vice to the or­gan­i­sa­tion and the wider en­er­gy sec­tor” and con­firmed that a for­mal tran­si­tion plan is un­der­way.

The state­ment said the Board will re­view the Cham­ber’s strate­gic plan and core ac­tiv­i­ties to en­sure they re­main fit for pur­pose and aligned with mem­bers’ evolv­ing needs.

It added that a re­cruit­ment process to iden­ti­fy a suc­ces­sor will be­gin im­me­di­ate­ly, with an in­ter­im leader to be ap­point­ed dur­ing the tran­si­tion.

Dr Dri­ver has led the or­gan­i­sa­tion since 2002 and guid­ed the Cham­ber through a pe­ri­od of sig­nif­i­cant change in the en­er­gy sec­tor.

Chair­per­son Mala Bali­raj thanked him “on be­half of the Board, staff and mem­bers” for his steady lead­er­ship, say­ing his work strength­ened the or­gan­i­sa­tion and had a broad im­pact across the en­er­gy sup­ply and val­ue chain. She said his com­mit­ment to safe op­er­a­tions would re­main a hall­mark of his lega­cy and wished him well in his next chap­ter.

Dr Dri­ver said it had been “a priv­i­lege to lead the En­er­gy Cham­ber” and that he was proud of what the or­gan­i­sa­tion had achieved. He ex­pressed con­fi­dence that the Cham­ber is well po­si­tioned to con­tin­ue sup­port­ing en­er­gy-sec­tor de­vel­op­ment in Trinidad and To­ba­go and the wider re­gion, and thanked the Board, staff and mem­bers for their sup­port.

The Board said it re­mains com­mit­ted to con­ti­nu­ity of lead­er­ship and main­tain­ing high stan­dards of ser­vice to mem­bers through­out the re­cruit­ment and han­dover pe­ri­od, adding that fur­ther de­tails on the in­ter­im ap­point­ment and CEO search process will be pro­vid­ed when fi­nalised.
