Officers of the Southern and South Western Divisions seized ammunition and cannabis during coordinated exercises on Wednesday.
Between 7:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., officers of the Southern Division Task Force, Area East, conducted an intelligence-led exercise in St Mary’s Village, Moruga. Acting on information received, the team went to a forested area about 400 metres off Poui Road and carried out a search.
During the exercise, officers found 46 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition concealed inside a pair of socks. The ammunition was seized pending further enquiries. No arrests were reported in connection with the find.
In a separate exercise in the South Western Division at about 11:30 a.m., W/A/Cpl Hernandez-Williams, WPC Williams and officers attached to the South Western Division Task Force, Area West, went to an address along 4th Street, Techier Village, Point Fortin.
A search of an abandoned house led to the discovery of 11 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and about 1.6 kilogrammes of cannabis. The items were seized.
Police said the exercises formed part of ongoing operations in the Southern and South Western Divisions. Investigations are continuing into both matters.
