West Indies beaten by South Africa in Super 8s

The West In­dies suf­fered a nine-wick­et de­feat at the hands of South Africa in its sec­ond Su­per 8s match of the on­go­ing ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Ahmed­abad.

Hav­ing lost the toss and was asked to bat first, the West In­dies lost wick­ets con­sis­tent­ly. At one point, the re­gion­al side was 83 for sev­en at the mid­way point. Ro­mario Shep­herd struck an un­beat­en 52 from 37 balls while Ja­son Hold­er made 49 from 31 balls to lift the Windies to 176 for eight from their 20 overs.

South Africa had lit­tle trou­ble get­ting to its tar­get scor­ing 177 for one in 16.1 overs. Cap­tain Aiden Markram hit an un­beat­en 82 from 46 balls while his open­ing part­ner Quin­ton de Kock scored 47.

The West In­dies next plays In­dia on Sun­day.
