Four men were arrested and a firearm and ammunition seized during an intelligence-led exercise in Arima on Tuesday.
Police said officers of the Northern Division North conducted the operation between 2.00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on February 24. The exercise was led by ACP Singh, W/Snr Supt Maynard Wilson, Supt Mc Kenzie, ASP Balewah and Insp Estrada. Cpl Osouna supervised officers attached to the Arima Charge Room and the Arima Intelligence and Operations Units.
Around 2.00 a.m., officers conducting a street-check observed a white Mitsubishi wagon. Police said the driver looked towards officers, turned the vehicle and drove off in the opposite direction. Officers pursued and stopped the vehicle a short distance away.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of several number plates. Four male suspects were arrested in connection with the find.
Around 11.30 a.m., officers returned to the area where the suspects were first detained. Police said a search along the eastern side of the roadway at the corner of Daniel Trace and Train Line Road, Malabar, Arima, resulted in the discovery of a 9mm Glock pistol fitted with a magazine containing 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were seized.
