Controversial social media personality Gabriel “Batman” Harrigin has been remanded to prison after being denied bail on charges of kidnapping and rape.
Harrigin appeared before High Court Master Indira Chinebas on Wednesday, where bail was refused. He is represented by attorney Larry Williams and is expected to reappear in court on March 20, when bail will be reconsidered.
The 32-year-old is accused of attacking a woman in January, two days after celebrating his birthday. According to the complainant, Harrigin picked her up at her D’Abadie home and they later visited a bar on Ariapita Avenue. She alleged that instead of taking her home, he drove her to his residence in St James.
The woman claimed she was assaulted, threatened and forced to have unprotected sex twice before being dropped off in Port-of-Spain, where she made a report to the Besson Street Police Station.
Harrigin was arrested last week and charged after reportedly being identified in an identification parade. He faces charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, grievous sexual assault, two counts of rape and assault by beating.
