Amrika Mutroo and Zach Ransome have been crowned the Senior and Junior Chaguanas Calypso Monarchs for 2026, following a competitive final on the big stage at Ramsaran Street, Chaguanas, on Saturday.
The junior segment kicked off shortly before 7 pm, with eight contestants delivering spirited performances for the panel of judges. Ransome, clinched the title with 379 points.
Kadon Hart placed second with 364 points for Philosophy of the Road, while Chelsea Figueroa finished third with 332 points.
In the senior category, 12 finalists competed in a tightly contested round. Mutroo emerged victorious with 373 points. Nakasa Thatcher placed second with 372 points , while Helen Jones secured third with 370 points.
Chaguanas Carnival Committee chairman Melissa Jadoonanan praised the high standard of the competition.
“Calypso is rooted in T&T’s culture. This art form is one of the distinctive ways we identify with our culture and as a people. It’s social commentary at its finest, with grand displays and theatrical performances. One rhythm, one people. We could not say it better. Chaguanas is also a platform for the culture,” she said.
