A 27-year-old Arouca man is expected to appear before a magistrate after police charged him with the murder of Yamerlis Lopez.
Police said officers arrested the man on Monday and kept him in custody. Investigators from the Region II Homicide Bureau met with officials from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on Thursday.
Sources said the DPP gave instructions to lay the charge.
Yamerlis Lopez was gunned down while sitting under a shed at Garden Road, Windy Hill, Arouca, on January 21.
Initial reports indicated that Lopez was pregnant at the time of the shooting; however, sources said post-mortem results refuted this.
Police suspect the killing arose from a dispute.
In an unrelated incident, police arrested a 26-year-old San Juan man in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Kerwyn Sammerson at Wharf Trace, Maracas, St Joseph, on Monday.
