Investigators believe an altercation led to the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old labourer Kyle Edmund in Longdenville on Monday.

Edmund, of Flemming Street, Longdenville, died at hospital. A 17-year-old was also injured in the incident.

Police were told that at 6.30 pm, Edmund and the teenager were standing along Flemming Street watching an altercation between a man they knew and a group of other individuals. Edmund was holding his cellphone at the time.

According to police, the suspect approached Edmund and stabbed him twice, once in the right shoulder and once in the left side of the chest. The teenager sustained a minor wound to his upper right back.

Edmund ran a short distance into a nearby resident’s yard, while the suspect fled the scene.

Officers took Edmund to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where he later died. The teenager declined medical treatment, police said.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted this week at the Forensic Science Centre. Central Division and Homicide officers are investigating.
