An 18-year-old Sangre Grande man is expected to appear before a magistrate today to answer three criminal charges, the most recent being home invasion, after residents of Vega de Oropouche captured him.
Police said the suspect, from Damarie Hill, together with two masked men, one of whom was armed with a knife, confronted a 48-year-old man at his home on Rampersad Trace, Vega de Oropouche, on January 23.
The homeowner fought back against one of the bandits, whose mask fell off during the scuffle.
The bandits fled the home along a nearby track but were chased by villagers, who caught a man believed to be one of the bandits and tied his legs with rope before police arrived.
He was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital for injuries sustained during the scuffle with villagers.
Sources said officers made multiple attempts to obtain a statement about his beating by villagers, but he reportedly refused.
Officers of the Sangre Grande CID charged the suspect with home invasion on Sunday.
On Saturday, officers also charged him with robbery with aggravation for a separate incident on January 18 and housebreaking and larceny for an incident on July 15, 2025.
