Trinidad and Tobago and the United Arab Emirates have signed a bilateral investment agreement aimed at promoting and protecting investments between the two countries.

The agreement was signed today in Dubai by Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister Sean Sobers on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago and UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini. The signing took place on the margins of the World Governments Summit, which is being held in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, the agreement establishes a framework to support and protect investments made by investors from both countries. It sets out standards for investor conduct and provides protections including fair and equitable treatment and safeguards against expropriation. The agreement also outlines mechanisms for resolving investment disputes.

The ministry said the signing follows discussions between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2025.

The World Governments Summit is an annual forum that brings together government officials, international organisations and private sector representatives to discuss global policy and governance issues.
