Firearm recovered in South Oropouche

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions af­ter of­fi­cers re­cov­ered a firearm in the South Oropouche area dur­ing the ear­ly hours of Fri­day Jan­u­ary 23, 2026.

At ap­prox­i­mate­ly 12.30 a.m., of­fi­cers at­tached to the Siparia Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment, act­ing on in­tel­li­gence in­for­ma­tion, went to a man­grove area along Bay Road, Ota­heite Bay. Dur­ing a search of the area, of­fi­cers found a firearm wrapped in a black plas­tic bag and con­cealed among man­grove roots.

Po­lice ex­am­ined the firearm, ren­dered it safe, and iden­ti­fied it as a Glock 22 .40 cal­i­bre pis­tol. Of­fi­cers car­ried out a fur­ther search of the sur­round­ing area, but found no ad­di­tion­al il­le­gal items.

Po­lice have made no ar­rests at this time and en­quiries are con­tin­u­ing. Of­fi­cers are urg­ing mem­bers of the pub­lic with in­for­ma­tion that may as­sist in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion to con­tact the Siparia Po­lice Sta­tion or Crime Stop­pers.
