An inmate who scaled the perimeter wall of the Port of Spain Prison on Wednesday morning was back in custody within minutes, after officers swiftly tracked him down just streets away from the facility.
The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service said inmate Travis Curtis escaped around 10.00 am after climbing the western perimeter wall along Pembroke Street. His freedom lasted roughly 18 minutes.
Officers attached to the Port of Spain Prison, supported by the Emergency Response Unit, moved quickly and intercepted Curtis around 10.18 am near Abercromby Street in Port of Spain.
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape and whether additional charges will be laid for escaping lawful custody.
The Prison Service praised the officers involved for their rapid response and thanked members of the public for cooperating during the operation.
