Escapee recaptured within minutes after prison breach

An in­mate who scaled the perime­ter wall of the Port of Spain Prison on Wednes­day morn­ing was back in cus­tody with­in min­utes, af­ter of­fi­cers swift­ly tracked him down just streets away from the fa­cil­i­ty.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Prison Ser­vice said in­mate Travis Cur­tis es­caped around 10.00 am af­ter climb­ing the west­ern perime­ter wall along Pem­broke Street. His free­dom last­ed rough­ly 18 min­utes.

Of­fi­cers at­tached to the Port of Spain Prison, sup­port­ed by the Emer­gency Re­sponse Unit, moved quick­ly and in­ter­cept­ed Cur­tis around 10.18 am near Aber­crom­by Street in Port of Spain.

Po­lice are now in­ves­ti­gat­ing the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the es­cape and whether ad­di­tion­al charges will be laid for es­cap­ing law­ful cus­tody.

The Prison Ser­vice praised the of­fi­cers in­volved for their rapid re­sponse and thanked mem­bers of the pub­lic for co­op­er­at­ing dur­ing the op­er­a­tion.
