Three suspects held, firearms seized

Three sus­pects were ar­rest­ed and two firearms and quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion were seized dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in the Cen­tral and West­ern Di­vi­sions on Tues­day.

In the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers of Task Force Area North con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 1 pm and 6 pm. Dur­ing the op­er­a­tion, of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to the En­ter­prise dis­trict, where they car­ried out a search at a res­i­dence lo­cat­ed on Chrissie Ter­race.

Dur­ing the search, of­fi­cers found one pis­tol with a mag­a­zine. A 23-year-old woman who was at the premis­es at the time of the ex­er­cise was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery.

The Cen­tral Di­vi­sion op­er­a­tion was co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt Bhag­wan­deen, Supt Glodon and ASP Her­nan­dez. Per­son­nel of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Reg­i­ment al­so took part in the ex­er­cise.

In the West­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers of the Gang and In­tel­li­gence Unit and the Task Force con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 3 pm and 6 pm in the St James dis­trict.

Dur­ing the West­ern Di­vi­sion ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed two male sus­pects, ages 18 and 19. The sus­pects are from St James and Long Cir­cu­lar. The ar­rests were made in con­nec­tion with the pos­ses­sion of one pis­tol and a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion.

The sus­pects were tak­en in­to po­lice cus­tody while in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ued in­to the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the seizures.

The ex­er­cis­es formed part of on­go­ing op­er­a­tions be­ing con­duct­ed in mul­ti­ple di­vi­sions. Po­lice said the op­er­a­tions were aimed at ad­dress­ing firearm-re­lat­ed of­fences and en­forc­ing the law in the re­spec­tive dis­tricts.

All seized items were tak­en to po­lice fa­cil­i­ties to be processed in ac­cor­dance with pro­ce­dure. Fur­ther ac­tion in the mat­ters is ex­pect­ed fol­low­ing the com­ple­tion of in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
