The People’s National Movement has formally requested recounts in the Darrel Spring Whim and Scarborough Mt Grace electoral districts following yesterday’s Tobago House of Assembly elections, with the recounts scheduled to begin at 3 pm today.
The Elections and Boundaries Commission said the preliminary tabulation and verification of results from the THA elections, held yesterday, were completed in accordance with established electoral procedures. Of the total registered electorate of 53,239 voters across 15 electoral districts in Tobago, voter turnout was recorded at approximately 50.69 per cent.
The Commission reported that the distribution of votes received by the political parties was 181 for the Innovative Democratic Alliance, 10,456 for the People’s National Movement, 16,240 for the Tobago People’s Party, and eight for the Unity of the People.
The total valid votes were 26,885, and the total rejected ballots were 104. Based on the preliminary count, the Tobago People’s Party won all 15 electoral districts.
The Commission said the results remain preliminary and provisional pending the completion of the recounts and the final validation process.
