PNM seeks recounts in two THA districts

The Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment has for­mal­ly re­quest­ed re­counts in the Dar­rel Spring Whim and Scar­bor­ough Mt Grace elec­toral dis­tricts fol­low­ing yes­ter­day’s To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly elec­tions, with the re­counts sched­uled to be­gin at 3 pm to­day.

The Elec­tions and Bound­aries Com­mis­sion said the pre­lim­i­nary tab­u­la­tion and ver­i­fi­ca­tion of re­sults from the THA elec­tions, held yes­ter­day, were com­plet­ed in ac­cor­dance with es­tab­lished elec­toral pro­ce­dures. Of the to­tal reg­is­tered elec­torate of 53,239 vot­ers across 15 elec­toral dis­tricts in To­ba­go, vot­er turnout was record­ed at ap­prox­i­mate­ly 50.69 per cent.

The Com­mis­sion re­port­ed that the dis­tri­b­u­tion of votes re­ceived by the po­lit­i­cal par­ties was 181 for the In­no­v­a­tive De­mo­c­ra­t­ic Al­liance, 10,456 for the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment, 16,240 for the To­ba­go Peo­ple’s Par­ty, and eight for the Uni­ty of the Peo­ple.

The to­tal valid votes were 26,885, and the to­tal re­ject­ed bal­lots were 104. Based on the pre­lim­i­nary count, the To­ba­go Peo­ple’s Par­ty won all 15 elec­toral dis­tricts.

The Com­mis­sion said the re­sults re­main pre­lim­i­nary and pro­vi­sion­al pend­ing the com­ple­tion of the re­counts and the fi­nal val­i­da­tion process.
