Weapons, ammunition and drugs seized

Firearms, am­mu­ni­tion, firearm parts and cannabis were seized dur­ing po­lice op­er­a­tions in the West­ern Di­vi­sion on Sun­day.

Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Al­lis­ter Gue­var­ro ac­knowl­edged the work of of­fi­cers as­signed to the di­vi­sion and ref­er­enced con­tin­ued polic­ing ac­tiv­i­ty with­in com­mu­ni­ties. The Com­mis­sion­er ref­er­enced the role of Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent AG Williams and of­fi­cers un­der his com­mand and in­di­cat­ed that en­force­ment will con­tin­ue.

At about 2.53 pm, of­fi­cers act­ing on in­for­ma­tion searched a con­crete struc­ture at Faustin Trace, Mar­aval. Dur­ing the search, of­fi­cers found a back­pack be­hind a sheet of gal­vanised ma­te­r­i­al. In­side was one Glock 19 pis­tol and three pack­ages con­tain­ing 369 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion. The am­mu­ni­tion in­clud­ed 100 rounds of 9mm, 106 rounds of 7.62mm and 163 rounds of 5.56mm.

Fur­ther search­es led to the dis­cov­ery of a bag con­tain­ing firearm parts. The items in­clud­ed six ri­fle mag­a­zines, two pis­tol drum mag­a­zines, one ri­fle butt and one pis­tol ex­tend­ed mag­a­zine. Al­so found were two pack­ets con­tain­ing 356.6 grams of cannabis, eight ski masks and items of cloth­ing.

In an­oth­er ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to Belle-Vue, Long Cir­cu­lar Road, St James, fol­low­ing in­for­ma­tion re­ceived. Dur­ing a search of the area, Po­lice Con­sta­ble Bur­gos found a plas­tic bag near a garbage heap. The bag con­tained a Beretta firearm with a mag­a­zine and five rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion. A 30-year-old man from Jef­fers Lane, St James, and Ce­les­tine Trace, Mar­aval, was ar­rest­ed un­der the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tion 2025.

Ear­li­er, at about 9.00 am, of­fi­cers re­ceived in­for­ma­tion about a Nis­san AD van parked on Nicholas Street, Mar­aval. Woman Po­lice Con­sta­ble Sa­landy lo­cat­ed the ve­hi­cle. Checks re­vealed is­sues with reg­is­tra­tion plates and the ig­ni­tion. The ve­hi­cle was tak­en to the St James Po­lice Sta­tion.
