PM looks forward to stronger ties with Venezuela

Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has ex­pressed Trinidad and To­ba­go’s an­tic­i­pa­tion of re­newed co­op­er­a­tion and stronger re­la­tions with Venezuela in the com­ing years.

This fol­lows the cap­ture of Venezue­lan Pres­i­dent Nico­las Maduro by the Unit­ed States in the ear­ly hours of this morn­ing.

“Trinidad and To­ba­go looks for­ward to re­newed co­op­er­a­tion and the strength­en­ing of our long­stand­ing friend­ship with the peo­ple of Venezuela in the com­ing years. May God guide and pro­tect them as they tran­si­tion away from years of op­pres­sion and dic­ta­tor­ship on­to a new path­way to­wards democ­ra­cy, jus­tice and pros­per­i­ty,” she wrote in a so­cial me­dia post.

Ear­li­er this morn­ing, Per­sad-Bisses­sar al­so ad­dressed the U.S. mil­i­tary op­er­a­tions in Venezuela, stress­ing that Trinidad and To­ba­go is not in­volved. “Trinidad and To­ba­go is NOT a par­tic­i­pant in any of these on­go­ing mil­i­tary op­er­a­tions. Trinidad and To­ba­go con­tin­ues to main­tain peace­ful re­la­tions with the peo­ple of Venezuela,” she added.
