The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has arrested seven suspects and cleared 12 criminal cases during an ongoing anti crime exercise aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals.
The exercise, dubbed Operation Beacon, began at 9 am on Monday December 29, 2025, and is scheduled to continue until 9 am on Friday January 2, 2026. Police say the operation targets offences against women and children and forms part of wider efforts to address serious crime across Trinidad and Tobago.
According to the TTPS, the operation resulted in arrests and charges for offences ranging from sexual assault to kidnapping and robbery. In total, police cleared 12 cases during the exercise.
Operation Beacon was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police Natasha George, Assistant Commissioner of Police Smith, Senior Superintendent Winston Maharaj, and Senior Superintendent Brian Ramphall. Superintendent Darryl Ramdass coordinated the initiative, with assistance from W Asp Avril Francis.
Police say the exercise was conducted without incident.
In the Central Division, under Region 2, officers made one arrest and laid one charge in connection with a sexual offence involving a child.
In the South Western and Southern Divisions, which fall under Region 3, police made two arrests and laid two charges for sexual penetration offences.
In Region 4, the Northern Division, officers arrested one suspect for sexual communication with a minor, and investigations are continuing.
In the Tobago Division, Region 6, police arrested three suspects and laid three charges for offences including kidnapping, robbery with violence, assault, indecent assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and threats to kill.
The TTPS provided a breakdown of the offences addressed during the operation. These include four counts of sexual penetration, one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of sexual touching, one count of sexual communication, one count of indecent assault, one count of assault by beating, one count of kidnapping, one count of robbery with violence, and one count of threats to kill.
The Police Service is encouraging members of the public to report incidents of abuse or criminal activity and says investigations into several matters are still ongoing.
