The United Nations renewed its urgent call for restraint and de-escalation amid rising tensions in the region following a phone call between Secretary-General António Guterres and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
It was confirmed via a press release by the Office of the Secretary-General that Guterres received the call from Maduro to discuss the current situation.
During the conversation, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the United Nations’ position that Member States must respect international law, particularly the United Nations Charter, and take steps to de-escalate tensions in order to preserve regional stability.
