The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has launched the Traffic Warden Priority Bus Route Compliance Unit to strengthen enforcement and improve traffic management along the Priority Bus Route.
The Unit was inaugurated by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour during a ceremony at the Ministry’s Head Office in Port of Spain. He announced that the Unit will begin full operations on Monday.
In his feature address, Minister Zakour outlined the Ministry’s priorities for the Priority Bus Route, noting the need for consistent enforcement and operational efficiency. He said the Unit will provide dedicated on-the-ground monitoring and traffic management at key points along the route, supporting oversight and transit operations.
Permanent Secretary Nicolette Duke, Chief Traffic Warden Neville Sankar, senior Ministry officials and members of the new Unit attended the launch. Permanent Secretary Duke reaffirmed the role of Traffic Wardens in maintaining order on roadways and said the Ministry supports the Unit as it undertakes its duties.
The Priority Bus Route Compliance Unit will work with enforcement agencies to conduct daily monitoring and ensure access remains limited to authorised vehicles. The Unit will reinforce adherence to traffic regulations and strengthen compliance along the route.
The initiative is part of the Ministry’s wider programme to improve the national transportation system.
