SIU officers seize marijuana in highway operation

Of­fi­cers of the Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit con­duct­ed an in­tel­li­gence-led op­er­a­tion in the North­east­ern Di­vi­sion be­tween 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednes­day. The ex­er­cise was su­per­vised by Snr Supt Ed­wards, Supt Eti­enne and ASP Lynch, with sup­port from the In­ter-Agency Task Force.

Dur­ing the op­er­a­tion, of­fi­cers in­ter­cept­ed a ve­hi­cle trav­el­ling west along the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way near the Ibis Build­ing. A search of the ve­hi­cle led to the dis­cov­ery of 40 pack­ages of com­pressed Colom­bian “creepy” mar­i­jua­na, weigh­ing 20.74 kilo­grammes. The drugs car­ry an es­ti­mat­ed street val­ue of TT$4.4 mil­lion. The seizure was co­or­di­nat­ed on the ground by In­sp Am­mon.

One male sus­pect was tak­en in­to cus­tody in con­nec­tion with the find.
