Mounted Branch officer and police horse injured in St Clair accident

A po­lice of­fi­cer as­signed to the Mount­ed Branch and his horse were in­jured when a truck dri­ver at­tempt­ed to over­take them in St Clair on Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said the of­fi­cer was on mount­ed pa­trol on Bar­ba­dos Road at around 2.23 pm when a white Hi­no 500 truck was dri­ving be­hind him. The dri­ver tried to over­take the horse and rid­er, caus­ing the horse to be­come fright­ened when the truck’s tyre made con­tact with its left rear leg.

The of­fi­cer was thrown from the horse and sus­tained mi­nor in­juries, while the horse was al­so in­jured.

St Clair po­lice vis­it­ed the scene and are con­tin­u­ing their en­quiries.
