In a cannabis suppression operation, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says it successfully eradicated a large cannabis crop within the Marac, Moruga Forest Reserve.

The operation, led by the Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) Jungle Operations Team, involved collaboration with multiple agencies, including the Firearms Trafficking Interdiction Unit, the Moruga Police, the Southern Division Task Force, the Air Support Unit, and the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment Special Forces.

Under the supervision of Sergeant Lee from the SIU Intelligence Sub-Unit, the team ventured approximately two kilometres into the forest reserve. There, they discovered seven cannabis fields spanning approximately eleven lots of land, containing an estimated 16,100 fully grown cannabis plants. Additionally, they found a seedling bed with around 1,500 seedlings and a campsite.

The TTPS said all cannabis plants, seedlings, and the campsite were destroyed, with the estimated street value of the eradicated cannabis pegged at approximately TT$16.1 million.

The TTPS is emphasising its commitment to tackling illegal drug cultivation and ensuring the safety and security of communities.
